 Going to see the Albatross Colony and the penguins? A winding road hugs the rocky Otago Harbour shoreline. You’ll nose in and out of a number of cosy bays, and then on the north side of Portobello Bay, prepare to swing hard right up a short slope to tiny Portobello Bay Backpackers. Just 30 minutes from the buzz of Dunedin city, you have escaped to a rural waterside paradise, a far cry from a packed smelly-socks dorm. Just down the road from the home of the giant Albatross at Otago Heads, it’s a homely little spot with just two rooms sleeping five people max. |
