Ok Had to start another page.

I made a copy of a table I made for the missus for babies house but left off one important feature because it was so small and my first attempt at furniture. Well, I knew it would come and it did. first, where's the magazine rack. so I put on the magazine rack, and then, where's the draw. Sigh. It's just a toy dear.
Well now it has a working draw. And I must admit I'm pretty pleased with it. Still needs sealing but......

8/August/05

Had a go at flooring for the kitchen and bathroom.
Bathroom was very straight forward but as per normal, the missus had different ideas to me regarding the kitchen. Hers are better but that's NOT the point.

Well as you can see baby is moving in way before I even get to finish the house.
She's so cute how can I say no? (Mums backing her up too which makes it harder.)
I think the Suvarian gear is about 1/14 1/16 scale but it will be replaced piece by piece as time goes on.

On to the kitchen. This I'm particularly pleased with even though it's my wife's idea. I just wanted a plain floor.

This pic also shows the double wardrobe and bedroom door.

And to satisfy a couple of queries, here's some indication of the number of lights so far with quite a few still to come.
Check it out check it out!!!!!!!! Added the fluorescent bulb in the front. Just to be different. Neat blue light isn't it.
The advantage of having the light where it is is that it doesn't shine in the bedroom or bathroom if you turn off their lights given that the bathroom and bedroom don't have a wall for obvious reasons.

Well, till next time.

13/august/05

The kitchen bench (sink to come) Made this little puppy out of native timber but not the original top quality Rimu. Nonetheless I still like it too much to paint which was the intention. Using all this timber is making the house very woody which I personally like but doubt whether boring wood is a finish that'll appeal to a 2 year old. I'll probably come home one day and find the whole things been painted Pink!!!!!!!!!!!! The hole is for the dishwasher.

No the windows aren't finished which is why they are rough. Still have to have the inside flashings put around them.
More cabinets, shelves, fridge, microwave and oven to go down the right hand wall.

12/august/05

Tap fittings for the shower. Fiddly machining to put it mildly. I was going to make them silver but again the missus disagreed, Had to be brass. Wife's initial comments? "where's the soap tray?!?" (is this normal with wives????????????????????????????????) ((yes the shower head does come out!)) No the shower box isn't finished.

Two latest pictures showing the correct front chandeliers and kitchen cupboards.

OK Got side tracked here for a while. Had to make baby a play house. Check it out! but first here's a picture of baby checking out the hut for size in her toy pram. This is not a pose. It's one of those moments you catch unexpectedly. Too cute.

Play house up

Play house down.

It folds up flat because we don't have enough room in our house. Plus it means I can move it around or outside if it's a nice day. Just got to make some cam operated lifting wheels. It's light but not featherweight.

23/09/05

Couldn't resist. Had to add a door, which obviously caused major structural problems to a collapsible play house. Had to add a door/bottom brace and top brace to the house. How to do this???? Velcro of course. Got to love that stuff.

But first check out daddies little helper painting the bottom of her seats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Inside the playhouse. Seats and table.

The door. Kavita loves it but insisted on removing the window curtain.
Go figure.
I haven't painted the door yet, I'll give it a few days and see how she gets on with it. So far it's definitely a hit.

UPDATE 16/2/06

Well finally sorted the steps and fitted them properly, I've set them in with three hidden tiny screws so they can be removed at any time for renovation or access behind them.
Put in a support rail for the end of the banister, finished assembling the grand piano and put together a shower box for the bathroom.
Look at this!!
Had a spare hour to kill with baby the other day so went to the mall and looked in one of those shops with lots of gift ideas. Blow me down - there on the shelf was a cool selection of collectable music box mechanisms. Just what I'd hoped to get for baby's piano but never really thought I'd find. Now when the piano's in the house it looks normal but when she takes it out she can open the lid and use it as a jewelry/music box. It plays "how much is that doggy in the window." I used to sing it to her when she was even littler than she is now. OK, I use the term "sing" loosely but you get my drift. Lucky I had made the sound box of the piano hollow and not out of a single piece of wood. You can't see the handle when it's in the house.Check out the spring loaded support for the piano lid.

Definitely making progress on the house now. Next big jobs are to line the inside of the windows with timber and landscape outside the doors and windows. Looking forward to that so I'll do the windows first and get them out of the way.

Also fitted some door handles, way cool. This house is taking YEARS longer than I anticipated.

Had visitors the other night and looked down just in time to see baby completely disappear into the bottom story of the house. Turns out she wanted to take out the phone which was on the back kitchen bench so she just climbed it. Little rat! :-)

Oopps Left out my final pic of the bathroom and shower.
The arrow points to a removable door pin so I can take
of the door if babies getting too rough.

I'd also like to give a very special thanks to Tracy myminishop@yahoo.com and the Greenleaf Dollhouse Community http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/index.php. who have generously sent me a Greenleaf Haunted House for contributing to their conversations. Very unexpected and very much appreciated. Her who must be obeyed has locked it away until this house is at least 80% finished (another 6 months??) but I'm looking forward to assembling it.

Here’s the one I made mum, and here’s the one I made baby.
Babies words? “Thanks, too cute” (where do they get this from, she’s not even two! )

Yes I'm making an outdoor area for it later. It just gives her something to play with so she'll leave the chandelier alone. Maybe!! (foot note, it didn't work to well, she kept putting it on the floor and trying to sit on it.)

18/04/06

Check out Babies new Dollhouse car.
Now I'll have to make her a garage to put it in.
Think I might be more pleased with the car than her but what would she know??

And yes it is 1/12 scale.
Top on Top off

Way cool.

I'll bet she doesn't even know what she's looking at.
It's a 2005 Corvette C6 Convertible.

Well latest two additions. No pretence that they're flash. They are just an experiment with simple designs before tackling something a lot more complicated in the way of furniture. Testing a new glue and simple construction techniques.
Having trouble making the bed sheets lie properly.

Excuse Princess Barbie, lately she's been sticking her nose into everything.
She's going to get some plastic surgery soon but more on that later.

Thanks to some serious hackling from overseas Barbie had to go "bush" (Don't ask),

Added a double bed. Still can't get that darned linen to hang right!
Quite pleased with the actual bed though.
Fixed the linen problem by making it a fitted duvet.

Wow, due to a wonderful and unexpected gift from Susanne, way over in Canada, baby's house has had a wonderful addition in the way of a family moving in. Not just a family but some toys and a most wonderful set of furniture for the nursery. No point trying to say how much we appreciate such a wonderful gift as words don't do it so I'll just show a few pictures of what I'm talking of. I would point out Susanne did say she was sending just one wee doll which looked like our baby girl so you can imagine our surprise when the parcel arrived.
Thanks Susanne from the Sayers Family.

Not to sure how Aunty Barbie will take these new occupants. I'll bet you $50 she doesn't share her corvette. I'll just make a bigger garage. (good excuse to buy another car!)

26/05/06

Just a couple of things.

1) Barbie has been articulated at the knees, much better and soon her two sisters will follow.
2) In spite of surprisingly heated arguments I've started to go ahead with my down stairs study.
3) Ooopps, forgot the fridge. Was going to have an on off light but will just wire a light into the room lights.
Completely scratch built from timber. and a picture of it somewhere near place.

Cheers
Glen

Here's the latest endeavor. Still working out how to make it but pretty pleased so far.

Take a look here if you're interested in making a pretty cool palm tree.

OK Finished the fridge. Well kind of. It'll do for now.

6/6/06

Following instructions from her who must be obeyed I've extended out the bedroom deck. Also added a BBQ area underneath.

10/6/06

Had a go at some furniture making. Haven't really decided whether to go forward, redo or discard it yet. Time will tell I guess. Not happy with the corners.
Following much hassling from overseas I've caved and changed the material on the seats. I've done the two single seats and will recover the couch soon. Getting the upholstery to sit nicely in corners is tricky and different shapes would be easier.

If I paint a picture with antique paints is it an antique painting?

I've been given permission to start the Haunted House with the intention of turning it into a rabbit/bear hutch. Cool, That means baby can set up the HH as a play house to use with her friends and  I can  we can start setting up the dolls house with just the better dollhouse gear. In other words, I can kick out babies toys. You'd think she thinks she owns it!!!!

Haunted House (not my work unfortunately)

please note as you look at some of these pictures the floors and timber fittings aren't sealed yet, the outside grounds are still bear and none of the windows or doors have trims fitted to the insides yet. In other words the house isn't finished so there are some straggly edges here and there.
