Just as paintballers started creeping out of the wood work all round
Hamilton, I got an invite to join some local yobbo’s at a field
that has just opened.
The new field aptly named Paintball Hamilton is located just north of the Te Rapa Dairy Factory off State Highway 1.
Paintball Hamilton is owned by Hinterland Adventures, a company run by
Sam and Alisa. The business specialises in outdoor adventures including
team building and paintball. Sam and Alisa have just moved from
Whakatane where their first field is still located and have set up in
sunny Waikato to expand their operations.
The location in Hamilton comprises of 2 fields in total with a third
possibly being built. Currently the 2 fields are a speed ball and a
bush field.
The Bush Field is located in a small gully. The gully is planted with
pine trees and has little shrubbery. This opens the field up and is
great to play because you don’t have to hunt for ages to find and
opponent. To add extra cover a number of small barricades are littered
through the field. Down the centre of the gully is a stream which has
many crossing points including a major bridge.
The speed ball field is and interesting creature. The barricades on
this field are made from drums, Huge Tractor tyres and creates. It is
longer than most tournament fields and about as wide. The barricades
are spread out and there are a number of key bunkers that can dominate
the field, forcing some real x-ball style moves to advance forwards.
Between the two fields is where the ref’s hut is situated. It is
a roofed hut with mesh all round so you can see out. From the hut you
can view both fields clearly. This is not only excellent for
controlling games, but is a great place for those members of the group
that are not playing or having a rest to see all the action.
Paintball Hamilton has just upgraded their rebels to VL Orion markers.
These units are a simple, yet versatile marker. They are accurate and
easy to use. They supply punters with full-face vforce masks and also
have overalls available. The gear is all well maintained.
The games they play are based on the usual capture the flag scenarios,
how ever they have come up with a couple of interesting twists. One
includes a ball as a flag and the other is called the “Human Flag”. These make games that little bit different o your standard flag games.
Customers have the option of digital photos of their day and are also
welcome to use the BBQ area that has a great view of the river.
Overall Paintball Hamilton is an excellent establishment. The fields
are both interesting to play and fit and are slightly different to the
other fields round Hamilton.
