TUG Regulars

& 1st C.I.B. Group,
Christchurch, New Zealand

A brief overview of paintball in Christchurch

Christchurch has had a handful of clubs come and go over the years. Without getting into too much history, it started back around 1985 when Steve Constable started "The Ultimate Game" at Spencer Park. (Northern Chch). Things have evolved since then, a small number of fields have come and gone, and currently, there are two main groups of players in Christchurch.

TUG RegsThe Canterbury Paintball Club is a group that play mostly at Urban Paintball. The club is technically independent of the fields, and occasionally they play at TUG (The Ultimate Game, Outdoor). They normally have clubdays on the last sunday of every month (11am onwards), and team practices for team members (ie- "The Fallen" tournament team) during some of the other weeks. They are a more tournament oriented crowd.

The TUG "Regulars" are a group (not an official club) that play at The Ultimate Game. Historically, they play every sunday (12pm onwards), however the unofficial "clubday" is the first sunday of every month. If you're not sure when to come, come on this day. Within the TUG Regulars, is a smaller group known as the 1ST C.I.B. Group. (The CIB stands for Christchurch Independent Bushballers)

What else are you involved in? (Other than simply playing on sundays)

BaseSporadically, we do field modification to some of the fields at TUG. We do this for 'the love of the game'. It's normally simple things like digging a foxhole, building a tree branch barricade, or perhaps stacking some tyres. Occasionally it's more extensive work like rebuilding a fort, building an outpost, or digging a trench. We keep the work fairly light and don't take on a lot of work at once, we are afterall there for fun. Occasionally we actually have a formal working bee.

We usually do not attend tournaments. While we sometimes play 'speedball' (We enjoy it, it's fun) we're generally not interested in tournaments. Some of our members occasionally play in one though.

In addition to sundays and unofficial club days, we attend big games and scenarios. Usually it's only 1 or 2 per year. Common places in the south island big games happen are Hokitika, Dunedin, Invercargill, and Nelson.

So what is the 1st C.I.B. Group?

A small group, within the larger group of regulars. With it's own voluntary code of practice, which are a few simple guidelines/standards they adhere to, regarding attire, knowledge, attitude, teamwork etc... and wear an insignia on our BDUs. You can only join the group by invitation, after you' ve been a regular, and have proven your ability.

I want YOU for Regulars
What are the costs for playing at TUG?

Pricing has recently changed (17/8/06). Previously, the standard cost was 10c a ball, with no additional fees. However, paint is now cheaper, with one additional fee. (It works out cheaper overall). I'm not telling you how much, because management has asked us not to post prices on the internet.

To find out the current costs, come to a club day, or get in touch with one of the regulars.

I need more information!

The best thing you should do is turn up at one of our unofficial clubdays. They are the first sunday of every month at TUG. Sometimes players are there on other sundays though too. TUG is located at 980 McClean's Island road, just past Orana Park. You can also check out the CSPG Forum, and the Geocities "Would you like to join our group?" page.

Important Note!

Before you register on the
CSPG Forum, there are some things you need to know.
  1. Guests cannot view the forum, only registered users can.
  2. When you register, you are required to formally introduce yourself (You do not need to be a player local to Canterbury, we simply want to know who you are)
  3. Failure to truthfully introduce yourself is deemed highly suspicious, and failure to post is deemed as inactivity. Both will result in your account being deleted.
I'm not kidding people. Some might call this "facist", we call it "reasonable expectation". We have had multiple problems when we've run paintball forums in the past, with various undesireable members. Namely... lurkers who read but never post (And take what we say and post it out of context elsewhere), and troublemakers who have nothing better to do than stir shit. We no longer want such people on our forum. If you cannot meet the mandatory requirements of the forum, do not bother even registering.

As stated when you sign up, this is a forum for real flesh and blood paintballers, as opposed to people who shelter behind anonymity. The forum is not huge, it has 3 main sections.
  1. Paintball - General section for paintball chat.
  2. Events & Fields - Coordination of weekend attendance, and big game/scenario discussion.
  3. General - Non paintball chat.
