Why I dislike HTML-formatted email?
Why is it a problem?
HTML formatted email is more than twice as large as the original plain text version. Usually, the program will send two copies of the message: one is a plain text copy, the other is the HTML-formatted copy, which contains the text and HTML tags. So it's the same text repeated twice plus all the HTML encoding: more than twice the size of the original message. That's more than twice the time longer and more than twice the time more expensive to send and receive.

In text-only email readers the HTML code arrives as an attachment and as such will arouse suspicion and may well be deleted before being read.

Viewing HTML as plain text is difficult and time consuming.

Embedded HTML or MIME attachments is one method of spreading viruses, worms, or trojans. Just viewing or previewing the email message without opening any attachments may put you at risk.
Why I dislike CC (Carbon Copy) email
Why is it a problem?
Say a contact sends you an email and CC's (Carbon Copy's) it to a number of their friends and colleagues, then a few of their recipients forwards to their list and a few on their list do the same. Your email address is then passed to possibly hundred's even thousands of people. Any 1 of them could be in the business of spamming and sell your email address to more spammers, then you're all be in for spam mail.

If you must, the better option is to BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) this way the recipients can't see all the other addresses the message was sent to, only the address placed in the 'to' field and for this reason it can be a good idea to send the email to yourself, while BCC'ing it to a list of people.
Why I'm not fond of email Attachments
Why is it a problem?
While sending files as attachments to email is very convenient, there are reasons why its not widely acceptable.

Large attachments, especially without a warning could full up the quotas on the email account and may keep them from receiving any more email.
Alot of file types can contain code like programs, or macros, these can be harmful to your computer unless recieved by some one you know you can trust.
Not everyone will have the applications or updated versions you may have installed, such as M$ Office, just because its a widely used application does not mean everyone has it.

Its always best to notify the recipient(s) first before sending attachments, the fact you would like to sent an attachment, the file type, and even the size if it is a large file.
Note
If the appearance of your message is important to you either put it on a website and mail the URL, or save it as a rich text format (.rtf) or a portable document format (.pdf) using Open Office (free).
Zip up all files with maximum compression you intent attaching to the email with programs like Winzip and attach them to plain text email.
