January Report 2010
Hi All
Well the first month of the year is fast coming to a close and the
Nationals have been and gone. Tauranga
members have acquitted themselves really well and certainly ‘put us on the
map.’ Lincoln Vincent reported there was also favorable
comment on the new attire!!

Club Night
The next club night will be held on
Wednesday 3rd February –7.30pm at the Model Engineers
Clubrooms. Our guest speaker will be Bob
Toor who will speak on his time as a
helicopter pilot
–
should be really interesting.
We would also like to see members bring along some models or works in
progress. We would like to get the
business part of the meeting over first, then have Bob’s presentation followed
by discussion on a paper Roger Hutson has developed on tutoring new members and how best we can manage ‘Wings Badge’ tests.
Members will be interested to know that we
have currently upwards of twelve new members learning to fly. These people are at various levels of expertise and will
eventually need to pass the ‘Wings Badge’ test if they wish to fly at sites
other than Apata or tutor other members etc etc. The
latest directive from MFNZ essentially states:
2.4 The Wings Badge is compulsory for:
All members joining MFNZ after 30/06/2009 who are obliged
to attain the qualification.
and
All members as of 01/01/2012
The plan is to set aside two Saturdays in February
for Wings Badge testing. This will be
carried out between 9am and 12 noon. Booking time slots will be essential so as
not to impact too much on those wishing to fly on that day.
This subject will form the basis for discussion on club night as there
are other issues which will need clarifying .
The Air Show 6-7 February:
The finer detail of our involvement at the
air show has not been finalised as I write.
However it looks as though we can best assist in a helping role rather
than a display of our own. President
Tony and Mike Rice are working closely with the organizers and will have more
info on club night.
Maramatanga Park:
Just a further reminder that we are
holding another Fun Fly at Maramatanga
Park on 21st
March commencing 9am until 4pm.There will be twilight cricket on that day so we
will need to wrap it all up by 4pm latest.
We intend to make the layout a bit more user friendly and will make the
most of our newly acquired Eze up’s.
We intend to make some changes to the
parking layout and to the flight line as those of you who attended last year
will remember we had a cross wind spring up and take off’s became a bit sporting for a while. Our attendance last December was excellent
and we had a great day – your committee would like to think we could do it
again.
Regalia:
We still have a number of caps and shirts
which were ordered but have not
been collected and paid for. We would like to have this sorted soon. I
will not be at the strip this Sunday (24th) but will be there the following
(31st) and of course I will bring the gear on club night and am also happy for people to collect from my
home (check with a phone call first please).
We ordered a few extra caps and have 2
shirts of each size on hand. The prices
($12.00 cap, $28.00 shirt) are very good and extras will not be available at
the current price, as we negotiated a very good discount on the order and on
sold to members at cost.
Website Forum:
Pete Johnstone has put a lot of work into
the website of late in order to provide an easy means for members to
communicate and view messages. Its success or otherwise is entirely in member’s
hands. At the time of writing 25 members have registered – so have look on the
TMAC Website and go into Forum and Notices.
Indoor Flying:
All going to plan we should get underway
with indoor flying on the 10th February at 7.30pm which will be our
usual second Wednesday of the month. The
venue will be the Otumoetai Events Centre unless advised otherwise.
Well that’s all from me
Cheers for now
