My art practice is a celebration of the decorative form and of the process of creating these forms. Inspired primarily by the craftsman cultures of India, my work explores ideas of repetition and the handmade.

The motifs that I use reference a medley of sources including the natural world, architecture, fabric and traditional arts performed by the women of India such as Rangoli and Mehandi.

My fascination with the decorative form is a direct result of my relationship with the culture of India through my upbringing within the Hare Krishna community. The decorations used to adorn the sacred deities in our temples were the inspiration for my first works that dealt with the decorative form.

The repetitive nature of pattern invokes a ritual, a creation process akin to meditation, which results in images that invite contemplation by the viewer.

Thus I see my art practice as a direct extension of my spiritual heritage, and hope to provide the viewers of my work with an uplifting visual experience.
